Module Competence

This module is designed to enable the learner acquire knowledge and skills to maintain and repair various medical equipment. 

Module Outcomes

By the end of this module, the learner should;

1. Apply knowledge and skills acquired in Wave shaping and pulse generating circuits, Power semi-conductor devices, Opto- electronics (photo emissive and photo sensitive devices), Optical fibres and Lasers to maintain and repair various medical equipments

Course Content

Theory: 



  Practicum:


  1. Wave shaping and pulse generating circuits; circuit connections of: 555 Timer IC, discrete components, to assemble monostable, astable, bistable. use of schmitt trigger for wave shaping, discrete components and integrated circuits.

  3. Power Semi – conductor Devices; characteristics, power control circuits, controlled rectification (half wave, full wave), A.C. control (e.g. light dimming), control pulse generating circuits, dc motorspeed control

  4.  

  5. . Opto – electronic devices; plotting characteristics of opto – electronic devices (photo emissive devices and photo sensitive devices), connecting circuit to demonstrate their application, measurement of e.g. oxygen concentration in blood (pulse oximeter), infusion counters, tablet counters, control, transmission of information.
